Aurora, Ill. (Sept. 20) — First Presbyterian and First United Methodist churches, both in Aurora and adjoining neighbors, will team up to present “Raising the Roof,” a concert by local musical artists to benefit Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit housing ministry.
The event will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at First UMC, 60 S. Lincoln Ave. in Aurora.
The public is invited. Admission will be free. A freewill offering will be received.
Performing will be the “Men of Praise,” a men’s choral group from First Presbyterian. Karen Roberts will direct the group in several songs from the Promise Keeper movement.
Dr. Keith Hampton, organist and choir master at Aurora’s Wesley United Methodist Church, will play the First Movement Widor’s 6th Symphony on First UMC’s Moeller organ.
Also performing at the organ will be Wesley UMC member Robert Sundlof Jr. of Aurora. Sundlof has made previous appearances in the last years at the First UMC organ console. He will play Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Fantasia and Fugue” in G minor.
Ron Newman of Aurora, organist at Aurora’s St. Mary's Catholic Church and a WBIG-AM radio staff member, will present the well-known Bach/Gounod work “Ave Marie.”
Mary Zahora, Naperville, First Presbyerian organist, will play the hymn “Rejoice in the Lord.”
The event will feature audience participation in hymn singing with organ accompaniment.
After the concert, the public and artists will be served refreshments at a special reception.
